Vancouver you are so beautiful, but so humid
Canada, Vancouver start off in a limousine and then a free day on Sunday with market stalls, ferry boat and American-Indian dances. Monday extra long Brunello
Seen for you by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Once again in Canada and this time with the other Brunello producers. We are in Vancouver and we are all dressed for winter, but here it is hot, hotter than Montalcino at least.
Upon arrival the Brunello producers find a limousine with lounge and ceiling with lighting similar to a Christmas tree waiting for them. We were all overawed but happy.
Sunday was a free day with a visit to the market stalls, a ferry boat trip across the bay and then the Museum of Anthropology with the American Indian music festival. Wonderful!
The city is quite rainy but beautiful, what is especially fantastic is the lifestyle, with many young people and many different races. Asians, European immigrants…if there is a really multiethnic place then that is Vancouver. It also seems a happy city, with no tensions and a great love of life.
The come gradually, other Brunello producers taking part in the event, a few at
a time, from different places around the world. In total we are 26 Brunello wineries. Once again it’s the young producers who are protagonists: there are many of them, all very active, and more importantly a very close knit group.
The first tasting resembles a seminar. The second, “around the table”, is in a splendid hall full of crystal chandeliers and the flow of guests leaves one speechless: 360 operators among which many importers looking for wineries to put in their portfolio. A little hiccup with the badges, printed upside-down, larger problem, the wine is not enough because of the great number of visitors. Unfortunately the Canadian Government does not allow one to take more for wine tastings. The left over bottles should have gone to the Italian Consulate, but he’ll get none. I’m sorry for him, but happy for us.
Between one tasting and the other we had a short stop in the hotel where an enormous seagull is waiting for me on the windowsill. When I try and give it some biscuits he jumps on the food and pecks my hand.
We conclude the day with a tasting open to the paying public. The funds raised will go to a charity but every winery has only 4 bottles and 150 people come. We give some minute samples and luckily we are able to satisfy all. Our British Columbia agent Susan Giacomin – Wine Quest is incredible, tireless and with a contagious smile, she collects an unbelievable amount of contacts.
Wow!!!!! What a day, my feet want to climb out of my shoes!
