Enoteca Italiana: let’s take a peek in a high society lounge of Italian winemaking
The Enoteca Italiana is the Institute borne in 1933 to promote typical Italian wines and since the nit has taken the best Italian wines around the world, and especially now, with great success
I have been Vice President of the Enoteca Italiana for the past 4 years and now that the role as administrator is about to finish I would like to show you something on the inside. I was nominated among the administrators by the Mayor of Siena so as to be able to keep an eye on the annual accounts. The economic situation of the institution was in fact critical. However regardless of a decrease in public financing (reduced to a twentieth of what used to be the amount received) regardless of the international financial crisis …regardless of everything, the Enoteca has worked well and has a list of successes. Under the guide of the President Claudio Galletti and the Director Fabio Carlesi the Enoteca Italiana is experiencing a new life.
In the 16th century fortress built by the Medici’s to control Siena there is now a well run and popular restaurant “Millevini” with Alberto Degortes as chef and
head, he is the son of the famous Palio jockey Aceto. The wine bar and wine sale have grown in importance and in value: there is an ecommerce service and important shops such as the bookshop degli Uffizi, the Italian embassies abroad and most of all a network of 100 wine stores in China with the project Beijing Zhengyan Youshi.
Still in China the Enoteca has a vantage point in Shanghai with the Yishang structure where now all Italian commercial wine missions in China are dealt with. But it is the ability to organize events abroad and mainly in China, Russia and Brazil, with the guarantees of an institution and the agility of a small wine maker, that has brought the Enoteca to have an extraordinary number of orders from consortiums and regional offices.
The most important projects are however those through the Ministero delle Risorse Agricole. It’s the Ministero who asked the Enoteca to present Italian wines during the Beijing Olympic Games and the Expò in Shanghai, but most of all to create a project called Wine in moderation – L’Art de vivre, whose goal is to contrast the abuse of alcohol and educate t eh young to awareness while drinking. Las t edition the contest for videos regarding wine created by Beppe Fiorello received 600.000 contacts via social networks and was object of a successful presentation during the Festival di Venezia. A great result of which I am extremely proud to have been involved event though marginally,
and so I quite rightly can say << Brava Enoteca Italiana ce l’hai fatta! Stai per finire ottant’anni, ma non li dimostri, corri come un’adolescente!>> <<Well done Enoteca Italiana, you are about to celebrate you 80th year, but you don’ show your age, you run like a teenager!>>
