Donatella Cinelli Colombini new president of the Doc Orcia
The Doc Orcia is maybe the most beautiful areas in the world and one of the youngest and smallest but it has great expectations.
Donatella Cinelli Colombini has been called upon as President practically by popular acclaim by the producers who see in her a person who can bring about changes in this wine denomination. <<The esteem proven by my colleagues moves me deeply. I will really do my upmost to succeed in this very difficult challenge>> To understand the situation it is sufficient to say that for the 10 positions on the board there were not enough candidates, in other words the consorzio has little funds and many expectations.
<< The wines are really good and express all the effort and passion of the producers who in the majority of cases in their estates do everything themselves: from the vineyard to sales>> In other words in a globalized world in the Doc Orcia area the wine is still a family product even though there are excellent agronomists and wine makers as consultants.
Only 220.000 bottles per year in a territory full of art, wellness centres and one of the most beautiful farming landscapes in the world, that Unesco, in 2004, has proclaimed a world heritage site.
The Doc Orcia area covers 13 municipalities: Buonconvento, Castiglion d’Orcia, Pienza, Radicofani, San Giovanni d’Asso, San Quirico d’Orcia, Trequanda and some of Abbadia San Salvatore, Chianciano Terme, Montalcino, San Casciano dei Bagni, Sarteano and Torrita di Siena.
<<It is in fact the beauty of the Doc Orcia territory and the tourists who come
every year to visit who are,>> according to Donatella Cinelli Colombini <<the solution to the commercial problems of the young Doc Orcia area born between two giants such as Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano>>.
Those who might ask if the presidency of the Doc Orcia means a withdrawal from her role in the Consorzio del Brunello Donatella she replies with a smile <<absolutely not! I have received a lot from life, many professional satisfactions, and I would like to give something back. And that means the things that I do best: communication, territorial marketing projects, wine tourism.>> An honourable choice even though she admits << My heart is in Montalcino but I will do my upmost to better the future of this young wine denomination >>
