The wine by world giants

Costellation, LVMH, Treasury Wine, Distell Group, Concha y Toro these are the 5 largest wineries in the world and none of them are Italian

Concha y Toro - Barrio

Concha y Toro - Barrio

The first Italian is the Giv -Cantine Riunite in seventh position earning 449 million per year. It seems an enormous amount but in fact it is only one fifth of the American winery Costellation whose yearly business is equivalent 2.494 million Euros. The second in the world is Lvmh group, with 1.664.000.000 € yearly. This is a French luxury company created by Bernard Arnault. The letters – LVMH – Luis Vuitton Moet Hennessy – indicate a group of 60 fashion, jewellery, perfume and wine brands. There is a bit of everything: from the king of diamonds De Beers, to the king of dessert wines Chateau d’Yquem , to the monopoly of great champagne producers to the last arrival, Bulgari.

Yantai Changyu

Yantai Changyu

The world leader in matter of luxury sells completely different wine compared to the two Italian wineries in the world top 20. The Caviro di Faenza, in eleventh position, is known for its Tavernello who with its 181 million litres, of which 34 abroad, is the Italian brand most sold in the world.

In the first positions where the dominated by the French, Chilean and

Australians dominate, there is also a Chinese winery called Yantai Changyu, in sixth position, with 532 million in sales per year. This is a group, rapidly growing, which produces and sells entirely within the nation……. But is in fact in the exportation that the quantities between the largest wineries in the world even out.

In fact between the first in the top 20, the Chilean Concha y Toro, with 77,4 million in exportations and our Cantine Riunite –Giv sixth with 60,7 million Euros of foreign business, and the difference is not as enormous as in that between their total earnings.. Basically we are smaller but more enterprising.
