Oh it’s so cold! Pope Francesco and the Brunello lovers
The mission “Brunello in Canada” coincides with the election of Pope Francesco and finishes in the cold in Calgary
Do you remember the Calgary Olympic Games in 1988 with Alberto Tomba’s two gold medals? Well, it seems incredible but in Calgary there are no mountains.
The city is full of skyscrapers connected one to the other with suspended gallery area between buildings (in certain places its like being in a science fiction film) is considered the richest in the rich Canada because here there is petrol. In 10 years its population has doubled and there are more than 1 million people, with an amazing amount of young people.
Finally a free market for wine, without the monopoly as is in the other Canadian states. What a pushover!
The result being that in the Willow Park Wine and Spirit wine store– where we have a Brunello tasting for wine lovers– there is a vault full of expensive bottles and great vintages. But, when I say full, I mean full of pallets of wines not boxes, dozens of bottles per variety just like in the Arab Emirates.
In Calgary too the seminar and the “around the table” tasting go very well,
exceptionally well. At the seminar we have to add extra tables while for the professional tasting we get 300 visitors. Compared to the wine events in Italy here there are more women who work in wine, sommeliers, buyers, wine store owners …. Young, beautiful and “tough”.
The temperatures are mad from +12°Cto-12 inone day. Here’s the Canadian cold with snow and wind.
The election of the new Pope coincides with the Brunello wine. We get informed about the “ fumata bianca” and then we see the proclamation in Piazza San Pietro on TV in the bar. All the news channels are live from Rome and when they say the pope is Argentinean the South American waitress starts to cry. Such an emotion!
It is very moving to see the entire world televisions transmitting live from Rome. And this new Pope touches our hearts too.
